Travlel-lab
What is a homelab?
For me a lab is the enviroment you have designed to test and play with different technologies. As of writing this i`m travelig and i have my own setup with me. This contains a 4G router with 4 1Gbit ports. I also have with me a 2012 Mac Mini "server" with I7 "4 core" and now 16 GB of Ram. it have 2 500BG Samsung EVO SSD`s. This is connected with cable to the modem. As of now i run the latest MacOS on it with the OpenCore Legacy Patcher. And it runs awesome.
I may change this up to ubuntu server later, but i want to se what the apple platform can do for me and the people i serve on the daily basis. And i mostly run an Apple ecosystem myself.
The Router is just a cheap D-Link one with a data card from my cellphone carrier. On this occasion i have almost 80Mbit down and 45 Mbit up. 25 ms ping. This is something i can accept, specially since i have my won internett and don`t need to connect to a public AP.
I also have Tailscale connected on the node/travel-server, so it have connection to all my vital applications in my rack.
All in all this setup have cost me 120$ and serve a good purpuse for the $ in my opinion. Silent, small and cost-effective.
